blue ridge area food bank vision
Our VISION is that everyone has enough to eat.
Our MISSION is to provide nourishing food to our neighbors in need through vibrant community partnerships and passionate public support.
Our CORE BELIEFS are that hunger is unacceptable, that everyone deserves access to enough food, that food sustains life and nourishes health, and that we are called to serve neighbors in need without judgment.
hunger in the blue ridge
Factoring in inflation, many families now earn less than they did before the Great Recession. Those who kept their jobs, or quickly found new ones after being let go, are no better off. (Sentier Research, 2014)
Finding it challenging to make ends meet, our clients have to make tough choices. Statistics from the 2014 Hunger Study, which is conducted every four years, show our neighbors’ experiences with food insecurity.
60% of households have at least one employed member
78% of clients have a high school degree or GED
55% have incomes that fall at or below the federal poverty line
The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank serves an average of 106,000 people per month and distributed 25.3 million pounds or 21 million meals last year.
